At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Danish Building Research Institute (Statens Byggeforskningsinstitut, SBi) at Aalborg University’s campus in Copenhagen a position as senior researcher with experience in load-bearing structures and building design is open for appointment from 1st January 2020 or soon hereafter.

Job description
To meet an increasing need for research, education and dissemination within the field of structural engineering, SBi is looking for a researcher or a senior researcher with experience in load-bearing structures and building design.

Climate change, new materials, the desire for more sustainable construction, reduction of energy consumption and demand for high productivity and efficiency challenge the construction industry. Danish building practice is changing and the reliability level of load-bearing structures has to be met also in the new context of increasing industrialisation and prefabrication of structural design systems. Requirements for durability, lifetime estimation, and new innovative solutions are required in the construction industry - as well as an increasing desire for recycling of materials. This calls for development of new design methods and demonstration of the functioning of the building structures in practice, both theoretically and in laboratory studies. Therefore, more research on and development of new solutions is needed in close collaboration with the construction industry stakeholders, both in new construction and renovation.
The position is open at Department of Building Technology and Management, which researches in the main areas building technology, safety and durability and construction process, collaboration and innovation.

The position includes research, teaching duties and supervision of master and/or PhD students, dissemination, government consultancy, business cooperation in the field of building design and contribution to the development of research proposals for accessing national and international funding.

This may include but is not limited to
• design and execution of load-bearing structures
• analysis of load-bearing structures with advanced ICT tools
• documentation of load bearing structures
• renovation of structures in the existing building stock
• investigation of collapse in structures
• innovation of sustainable solutions for future building constructions

SBi has a wide network both nationally and internationally, and research is often conducted in collaboration with companies, organizations and authorities.

A position at SBi offers significant opportunities to influence the built environment, through government consultancy, SBi guidelines, business collaboration, teaching and research dissemination. You will become part of a dynamic research environment, where the focus is on knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaboration on technical and social science assignments.

• holds a PhD degree in a relevant (engineering) discipline
• has thorough research experience within one or more of the following areas
• building design and structural engineering
• theoretical analysis of load bearing structures
• reliability analysis
• modelling and simulation tools for load-bearing structures
• durability of building components and building materials
• experimental analysis of load bearing structures
• have hands-on experience performing measurements in the field or in a laboratory environment
• have publications in reputable journals

It is an advantage if the candidate has experience in
• proposal writing for Danish and/or international funding programs
• statistical analysis

The relevant candidate should have the ability to work in a team as well as independently and be good at networking. The candidates must have excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) and basic knowledge of Danish language for teaching assistance.
