Consultancy or senior researcher with qualifications in clinical and research MRI combined with a clinical professorship in Radiology with a special focus on Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics

A clinical position as consultant or senior researcher of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics at the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Rigshospitalet is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 5-year externally funded position as clinical professor of Radiology with special focus on Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position, the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Rigshospitalet wishes to strengthen both the department’s position and research in magnetic resonance imaging with a focus on oncology, which supports Rigshospitalets important expertise in cancer research and strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy/senior researcher position.

Job description
The professor’s duties will primarily consist of:

The main emphasis will be on the applicant’s documented experience with clinical imaging and research in the field of MRI in a clinical university hospital environment. The applicant is expected to move the Department of Diagnostic Radiology in a leading position in all fields of clinical MRI research and development.

Hence we require an experienced cross-disciplinary researcher able to:

  • Bridge state-of-the-art MRI technology and research improvements to clinical implementation
  • Develop image processing software algorithms to enable physiologic imaging of disease
  • Guide MRI research based on insights in the physical and biophysical basis of MRI
  • Provide academic assessments
  • Research, including involvement in quantitative imaging and development of strategies for artificial intelligence

Qualifications
For applicants both with a background as medical doctor as well as applicants with another academic background documentation for competences in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging should be specified.

The applicant should be:

  • Either a medical doctor with specialty in diagnostic radiology and documented experience in MRI physics – or a physicist with experience in MRI in a hospital environment with both clinical and research competences. Special focus on the field of oncology is preferred.
  • Able to document a high degree of original academic production at an international level in the described medical field
  • Manage research and other management functions including involvement in the
  • academic activities of the University of Copenhagen.
  • Provide research-based teaching
  • Possess good interpersonal and communicative skills

Department of Diagnostic Radiology
The Department of Diagnostic Radiology consists of 440 employees at respectively Blegdamsvej and Glostrup Hospitals and has cooperating functions at Hvidovre and Bispebjerg Hospitals in the Capital region of Denmark.

The Department of Diagnostic Radiology provides diagnostic services to Rigshospitalet, to other hospitals in and outside the Capital Region of Denmark and to the hospitals of Greenland and The Faroe Islands.

Section of Magnetic Resonance handles investigations for all clinical departments at Rigshospitalet as well as other hospitals. The section will in 2019 be equipped with 13 MR scanners including four 3 Tesla MR scanners The Department has a close collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Medicine, including research and development in the field of PET/MR and functional MR examinations.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department
The applicant will, in cooperation with other chief specialists be responsible for MR examinations, investigations, research and development regarding the sector’s responsibilities.

Research and teaching
With the new position as clinical professor, the Department of Radiology wishes to strengthen the leadership in clinical research and teaching in the field of MR.

Conditions
In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy/senior researcher position) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who already employed at Rigshospitalet.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists (or equivalent organization) and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor 50% of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g. research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) and the remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Diagnostic Radiology. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50% of a fulltime secretary position from the Department of Diagnostic Radiology. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Rigshospitalet.

About The Centre of Diagnostic Investigation
The Centre of Diagnostic Investigation comprises a collection of highly specialized departments: Clinical biochemistry, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, pathology, center of genomic medicine, diagnostic radiology, clinical physiology/nuclearmedicine and PET, clinical genetics.

The center has a staff of 1.600 and an annual turnover of 1 billion kroner. The center produces annually 10 mill. laboratory analyses and performs 650.000 image diagnostics based on 1 mill. contacts with patients and donors.

The core task is high-level research, strong educational environments, customized diagnostics and patient treatment. 33 professors and other researchers provides annually more than 500 scientific articles in international reputable journals.
