DTU Compute’s Dynamical Systems section, invite applications for a position as researcher in Secure Smart Energy Model Integrations. The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

The Dynamical Systems section conducts fundamental, advanced, strategic and applied research in the area of dynamical systems. This involves both deterministic and stochastic systems, discrete and continuous systems, deductive and inductive model building, forecasting and descriptions, as well as control and optimization and energy model integrations.

We do research in both deterministic and stochastic systems within a range of applications. The main themes are energy, smart cities, medicine, and biology.

The focus of this position will be on the evaluation and the implementation of secure energy related data infrastructure and the integration of heterogeneous energy models and making sure that the software and models developed within the projects are in line with the existing industry practise. The research includes ongoing cyber analysis of the smart energy systems and failure mitigation in the energy sector and integrating existing energy models developed in the section.

Moreover, the research exploits methods to maximise both the use of renewable energy sources and unlock flexibility in the existing systems using dynamical models (grey box models, continuous dynamic systems models). Furthermore, the research includes the development a secure visualization platform for combining various tools and models used in some of the section’s ongoing research projects.

Responsibilities and tasks
You will be responsible for heading research activities related to the energy model integrations, developing data management platforms and contribute to the projects software developments.

  • You play a leading role in the Flexible Energy Denmark (FED) project, playing a major part in the dissemination of the research findings, presenting at conferences of international quality, project meetings
  • Play a leadership role in mentoring junior colleagues and co-ordinating the work of research and support staff;
  • You will research new methods and technologies to securely integrate exiting energy tools and model in FED into one platform
  • You will engage in exploiting novel combinations and synergy effects with other methodologies researched and used at the section;
  • In collaboration with your colleagues, you will engage in project management activities and funding applications related to your field of research;
  • You will work in close collaboration with academic and industry partners, as well as with municipalities;
  • You will support education and innovation activities;
  • Independently identify research objectives and potential funding sources and prepare and write proposals for funding

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). More specifically, you should have the following qualifications:

  • Experience with modelling complex, multi domain energy systems
  • Experience in utilizing IoT devices in the smart energy set-up environment
  • Experience in the field of smart energy system reliability and security
  • Experience in agile software development and information-technology operations (DevOps)
  • Experience with successfully delivering and finalizing research projects both in the national and EU level
  • Experience in writing successful grant proposals

In addition:

  • Preferably, experience with teaching activities is desirable
  • You are motivated by both individual and team accomplishments

Consideration will also be given to:

  • Advanced knowledge of programming languages and frameworks such as ( JAVA, Python, SQL, R, Django )
  • Expert knowledge of DevOps and agile software developments (Git/Mercurial, Docker, Jenkins/ CI)
  • Experience of developing Middleware applications in the Energy related software systems
  • International project experience and the evidence of successfully delivering the research output

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
