Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as professor of Computer Science from January 1st 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department produces research at a high international level that feeds into our educational programs, while simultaneously leveraging our research to impact social, economic and political change. A realization of this objective requires that research and educational activities are based on openness to the outside world, collaboration, inclusiveness and knowledge sharing. The tension embodied in the name of the Department, between people and technology, is a key feature of the Department's research.

Responsibilities and tasks

The professor’s main tasks is to undertake research and research-based teaching within the field of research.

The professor is expected to maintain a significant record of publications, to inspire research achievement and to build a research culture within the research group. You will also be expected to secure external research funding, and engage in research networks. As professor you will be required to participate in post-doctoral training and be responsible for the supervision of assistant professors as well as take part in academic assessments. The position also requires share of knowledge with the rest of society – including participation in public debate.

The candidate is expected to provide research based teaching in full stack software development and programming of advanced interactive systems and to teach and tutor in several of the department’s education programs:

  • Computer science and informatics at bachelor and graduate level (ruc.dk/dat and ruc.dk/inf)
  • The bachelor program in natural science and the bachelor program in humanities and technology (ruc.dk/naturvidenskabelig-bachelor and ruc.dk/humtek)
  • The Master’s program in communication studies with it (ruc.dk/kommunikation-etfagskandidat)
  • The Ph.d. program in Information Technology

Finally you will be expected to contribute to management and leadership through engagement in the Department.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a PhD degree or equivalent within Computer Science. The successful candidate is expected to become affiliated with the research group Programming, Logic and Intelligent Systems (PLIS) and must relate his or her own research to the research themes of this group (see more at plis.ruc.dk):

  • Artificial intelligence, big data analysis and visualization
  • Analysis of programming languages and program properties
  • Innovative applications of IT
  • Logic and knowledge modelling
  • IT security

The ideal candidate is expected to be enterprising, possesses good communication skills, is an active, involved participant in the department's daily activities, and is willing to engage in disciplinary and interdisciplinary collaboration across the department.

Applicants must:

  • Master Danish (or Swedish/Norwegian) to the degree that you can teach and supervise in Danish and participate in on-going administrative and collegial cooperation. If you do not master Danish, you are expected to follow classes and reach an acceptable level of Danish within a period of two years.
  • Master English to the degree that you can teach and supervise in English.

Assessment

In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to;

  • original scientific production at an international level in relation to the above-mentioned field(s)
  • development of the field
  • experience with providing adaptive leadership in the development of research and teaching,
  • the ability to promote and utilize research results,
  • experience in teaching and education,
  • ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation,
  • experience in securing external research funding.

Terms of employment

The employment is on full time/part-time, 37 hours per week and you will refer to head of department Anders Siig Andersen.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Commencing salary will be minimum DKK 626.312 per year (1st October 2019 level) plus pension contribution (17,1 %).

After the deadline for applications the Head of Department will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.

Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.

The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.

Once the recruitment process is completed, all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.
