The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the field of Neuroimaging of pain as per 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a 2-year full-time position.

As an Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. As an Assistant Professor, you will be working on Aarhus University Hospital or another hospital in the Central Denmark Region. Your job responsibilities
As Assistant Professor of Neuroimaging of pain your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues. The position of Assistant Professor is a career development position in which you will receive supervision and pedagogical upgrading.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students, as well as possibly supervision of PhD students.
  • Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
  • Development of experimental paradigms that can help us respond to these questions.
  • Executing large scale data collection including recruiting, screening, and testing project participants.
  • Modelling and analysing neuroimaging as well as behavioural data.

You will report to the Head of Department Jørgen Frøkiær.

Your competences
You have independent research-related qualifications at a high international level. You are a clear communicator and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at Bachelor’s and Master's degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with the establishment of PhD courses and external research collaborations. In addition, the following skills will be highly relevant and prior expertise will be strongly favoured:

  • Working and analysing neuroimaging and non-invasive electrophysiological data.
  • Computational modelling
  • Relevant background in experimental investigations of pain.
  • Expertise computational methods and data science.
  • A strong track record of scientific publications in international peer reviewed journals.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are friendly and helpful and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching.
