Scientist position with expertise in Auditory Electrophysiology available for the Interacoustics Res
Denmark Is it time to get a career that actually matters? Would you like to make a difference for hearing impaired people worldwide? And would you like to see ideas go from the lab to the clinic? Guess what! You have found the right place! We have an exciting career opportunity for you at the Interacoustics Research Unit (IRU).

What we do makes a HUGE difference for people, and we constantly strive to improve ourselves.

Interacoustics is a part of the Demant Group. Demant is a global hearing healthcare provider with an international presence in more than +30 countries.

You will be focusing on technical and clinical research projects

You will be an integral part of the Interacoustics Research Unit (IRU), established to work on research projects in the field of technical audiology. The focus of the group is on applied and clinical projects in auditory electrophysiology, hearing instrument fitting, wideband tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions etc. You will be responsible for planning and managing technical and clinical research projects and will be expected to co-supervise Master and PhD student projects alongside industrial, academic and clinical partners. IRU is driven to make technological and audiological innovations with the potential to significantly improve the individual characterisation of hearing loss and functional deficits.

IRU is located at the Technical University of Denmark in Lyngby, just north of Copenhagen, and affiliated with the Hearing Systems research group (Centre for Applied Hearing Research; Oticon Centre of Excellence for Hearing and Speech Sciences) part of the Department of Health Technology.

By embedding IRU into a world-leading hearing science university department, the unit has the opportunity to ‘take the long view’ and pursue projects with a higher risk profile, than would be possible within normal industrial R&D groups.

You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with a broad range of internal stakeholders within product management and R&D to help ensure relevance of projects and that the outcome of the research leads to innovative new products / clinical applications.

Your tasks will include:

  • Managing & supporting projects with national and international partners, including reporting on progress and timing to internal stakeholders.
  • Helping to conceive and design technical/clinical research projects within the scope of diagnostic audiology.
  • Developing a broad international network of research collaborators & partners.
  • Preparation of scientific communications – i.e. peer reviewed journal articles, industrial white papers & other communications.
  • Preparation and delivery of oral & poster presentations at relevant international conferences & meetings.

To maintain our connection with product management and R&D, some limited (approx. 1-2 days/month) travel to our head-office in Middelfart is expected. Total travel is expected to be around 6-10 weeks per year including conferences and national/international meetings.

We are no better than the people we have

We expect you to hold a Ph.D. in audiology, engineering or neuroscience, with a research publication track record in technical audiology or neuroscience methods.

You will need a strong interest in applied research and be comfortable working on projects with potentially large areas of uncertainty. Depending on the project, you will be expected to be able to work both closely in small teams and independently when necessary.

The human element

We are looking for a creative, positive and practical researcher, naturally analytical and methodical in the path towards reaching project goals. However, it is highly important that our new colleague is able to see and fee the human element in what we do, in helping to innovate in application areas potentially dealing with young children and anxious parents. If you feel that you have this ability, then we can offer you the chance of being part of a highly professional team, tasked to ensure research makes it from the lab to the clinic.

If you have previously worked with diagnostic audiology, hearing aids, cochlear implants, fitting software and/or hearing impairment it will be an advantage.

We simply cannot wait to hear from you :)

This role offers an exciting and unique opportunity for a talented researcher with a desire to help drive innovation into hearing diagnostic instrumentation. It offers the best of both worlds, being immersed both in industry and academia – working in an international and cross-organizational environment, in which team-work and open communication is highly valued.

If you would like more information about the position, please feel free to contact James Michael Harte, head of IRU on (jmha@iru.interacoustics.com) or phone +45 5127 8033.

We treat all inquiries confidentially.

If you are interested in the position, please send us your application no later than 26th April 2020.
