Associate Professor for development of regenerative therapy in renal transplantation and native kidney diseases

The research laboratory of the Department Renal Medicine, Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Associate Professor in the field of regenerative therapy including use of mesenchymal stromal cells and renal machine perfusion as per 1 June 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is for 36 months and part time 40% with a possibility to increase the percentage.

The position at Department of Renal Medicine is based at Department of Clinical Medicine, Health, AU. We offer a vibrant international research environment where both Danish and English are used in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department employs some 12 renal specialist, in addition to postdocs, PhD students, research year students, two research nurses, three biotechnicians and one research secretary and assistant for Professor Bente Jespersen, who is heading the research lab.

Our infrastructure is well developed with a modern laboratory, access to animal facilities and cooperation with Aarhus University Hospital (AUH) and AU based departments such as clinical immunology. You will work mostly at AUH but also at the animal facilities at Påskehøjgård. Your job responsibilities
As associate professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine/Renal Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the University Hospital and the Regional Hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square metres of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals and communicating your research in national and international academic networks.
  • Teaching and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master's degree students and contribution to the development of new teaching activities.
  • To contribute to the funding with the help of external research funding.
  • Supervision of PhD students and contributing to the development of the faculty's PhD courses.
  • Involvement in assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.
  • Dissemination of your research to the outside world.

You will report to the Head of Research, Department of Renal Medicine, Professor Bente Jespersen

Your competences
You have established yourself as a prominent researcher within clinical and preclinical renal research, organ machine perfusion, and regenerative cellular therapy.

You possess solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level.

You have broad international cooperative partnerships and experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders.

You have potential of becoming a successful group leader.

You have experience of attracting significant competitive research funding from national and international funding bodies.

As a person, you are dedicated and possess excellent communication skills. You are able to build relationships based on trust with students, colleagues and partners. As a lecturer you communicate the newest and relevant knowledge in a committed, clear and comprehensible manner. As a supervisor you are competent, inspiring and supportive.

You are ready to take co-responsibility for the development of the department's research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English and to be able to communicate with patients and staff in Danish.
