Associate Professor in software engineering and formal methods for knowledge representations at the IT University of Copenhagen

The Candidate
We look to hire candidates holding a PhD, especially in Software Engineering and Formal Methods. The applicants are expected to conduct research and research-based teaching in areas such as:
- Program correctness specification and verification
- Quality methods for knowledge representation, ontological modeling, knowledge graphs
- Software architecture, knowledge management, and simulation in digital twins for applications in science and engineering
A good approximation of the area of interest is the scope of conferences such as MODELS, ETAPS, ESWC, DL, and SIMULATION.
The ideal candidate should document:
- Competences in developing and conducting teaching that is both effective and well received by students.
- Competences in conducting high quality academic research, reflected in demonstratable outputs.
- Experience in engaging and collaborating with industry partners, public sector, etc.
- Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in a team.
- Contributions to the goals of the institutions in which they have worked as well as to the research community, for example participation in committees, etc.
The candidates for a position as associate professorship should be able to:
- Attract external research funding
- Supervise PhD students
- Read/speak a Scandinavian language (or have the willingness to learn Danish)
Job description
The candidate is expected to perform research activities in collaboration with fellow faculty members in the research group, and to develop collaborations with other environments at the IT University when relevant.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the IT University’s education programs, both by giving courses and by supervising student projects both at undergraduate and graduate level. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to engage with society through external collaboration, to participate in securing external funding, and to contribute to the IT University’s strategic goals.

The IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) is a teaching and research-based university specializing in information technology (IT) and the opportunities it offers. The IT University has more than 160 full-time Faculty members. Research and teaching in information technology span all academic activities which involve computers including computer science, information and media sciences, humanities and social sciences, business impact and the commercialization of IT.

Salary and terms of employment
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with the Ministry of Taxation’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and job structure for academic staff at universities.
Qualification Requirements
The following qualifications are required:
- Candidates are required to have academic qualifications at PhD level
Application
The application and all other documents ought to be in English and must include:
- A motivated application (cover letter), including a detailed description of your qualifications and brief statements of research and teaching plans that relates to the criteria in ITU´s Competency Development Profile.
- A full CV, including name, address, phone number, e-mail, previous and present employment and academic background
- Documentation of academic degrees (copy of degree certificates etc.)
- A research statement, including a statement of purpose and research vision that provides evidence of independent thinking, novelty and originality, matching the position
- Copies of max. 5 different publications of research at a high international level in well-respected peer reviewed venues that are relevant to the position (the publications should be numbered)
- Documentation of university pedagogy training, and your teaching philosophy statement along with a teaching record relevant to the position. The teaching record should (at least for each course) include your official responsibility, the size of the course, the academic level, how many times a course has been taught, and the number of students. Include max. 5 course descriptions to document the experience.
- A record of contributing to the goals of the institutions in which the candidate has worked, for example participation in committees, etc.

The applicant will be assessed according to the Appointment Order from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of 13 March 2012.
The IT University may use shortlisting in connection to the recruitment process. In case of shortlisting, the Chair of the hiring committee selects applicants for assessment in consultation with the hiring committee after the application deadline. All applicants are notified whether their application has been passed for assessment. The shortlisting of candidates for assessment is based on the criteria in the job posting.
