Postdoctoral Researcher in International Clinical Epidemiology Project on Childhood Kidney Cancer

Region Hovedstaden

About the position
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher (or candidate at a similar level) with strong methodological skills in epidemiology and statistics to contribute to an international project focused on improving outcomes for children with kidney cancer (Wilms tumour), particularly those who relapse.

The project is based on analyses of the world’s largest Wilms tumour database and involves close collaboration with the leading European clinical groups. The aim is to improve prognostic assessment at relapse and optimise treatment strategies, with results expected to contribute directly to updated European treatment guidelines and future clinical trials.

The position is anchored in collaborative environments including the paediatric oncology research lab at Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), the Childhood Cancer Research Team at the Danish Cancer Society’s Cancer Institute, and the SIOP Renal Tumour Study Group. The database is hosted in Utrecht.

The position is for 1 year, with the possibility of prolongation.

Key responsibilities
You will play a central role in designing and conducting clinical epidemiological studies across international research environments.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing, managing, and harmonising clinical data on Wilms tumour.
  • Conducting statistical analyses both on a team and individual level.
  • Evaluating relapse outcomes, prognostic factors, and developing prognostic risk scores.
  • Collaborating with clinicians, epidemiologists, data managers, and statisticians across Europe.
  • Contributing to updated treatment guidelines and future study development.
  • Assisting with grant applications, reporting, and dissemination of findings.
  • Supporting methodological reviews on early phase trials and ad hoc statistical tasks within the international study group.

About you
We are looking for a candidate who:

  • Holds a relevant master’s degree (e.g. public health, medicine, or statistics) and a PhD in epidemiology or a related field.
  • Is fluent in English.
  • Has strong knowledge of epidemiological and statistical methods and experience with statistical software such as R and SAS.
  • Can work independently and thrive in an international, interdisciplinary environment with flexibility.

About us
This position involves collaboration across three main research environments:

A) The Childhood Cancer Research Team at the Danish Cancer Institute (Danish Cancer Society) that conducts epidemiological research within different aspects of childhood cancer, including early diagnosis, survival, and late effects, using large national and international cohorts in close collaboration with clinicians.

B) BONKOLAB at Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), which is a leading paediatric oncology research laboratory focused on translational and clinically driven research to improve outcomes for children with cancer through molecular biology, genomics, and innovative experimental approaches.

C) The SIOP Renal Tumour Study Group, which is an international collaborative network dedicated to improving diagnosis, treatment, and survival for children with renal tumours through multinational clinical trials and translational research.

We offer
An ambitious and inspiring international research environment with strong interdisciplinary and clinical collaboration. The position includes close interaction with clinicians and researchers at Rigshospitalet and BONKOLAB, as well as participation in international meetings (online and live) within the renal tumour study group.
The workplace offers a canteen, sports and art associations, and a smoke-free environment. Salary and employment conditions follow the relevant collective agreements. The position is formally based at Rigshospitalet; however, you will spend most of your working time at the Danish Cancer Society, Strandboulevarden 49, Copenhagen Ø. The position is full-time (37 hours), but part-time employment may be discussed.
