Join us as our new Research Scientist (2-year temporary position)
We are looking for three new dedicated colleagues to join our Fungal Strain Development team anchored in Production Strain Technology (PST). We are looking for a candidate with an interest in both practical laboratory work and data science/bioinformatics. As our new scientist, you will be part of an agile team, collaborating across disciplines such as molecular biology, automation, and data driven decision making. You and your team will deliver new enzyme-producing strains using a combination of manual and automated workflows.

Welcome to Production Strain Technology in Enzyme, Protein & Strain Engineering, R&D
In PST we develop and use state-of-the-art expression technology to make high-yielding production strains in microbial hosts. PST consists of six departments that are divided into cross-disciplinary agile teams, and we collaborate closely with strain engineering colleagues globally and with e.g., Molecular Discovery and our Fermentation Pilot Plant. PST is part of Enzyme, Protein & Strain Engineering in R&D.

In this role you’ll make an impact by:

  • Being curious about tomorrow’s cell factories with a drive to challenge today’s conventions
  • Constructing and assessing new fungal production strains, using advanced molecular biology methods combined with automated and digital solutions
  • Designing, generating, and analyzing large experimental datasets to guide strain design
  • Help designing future experiments that will increase our understanding and predictive power in strain design
  • Creating value to our customers by translating scientific knowledge into biological solutions
  • Networking with other parts of Novonesis to secure a holistic and solution-minded project execution

Potentially relevant experience:
You must hold a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar. Ideally, you match several of the bullet points below

  • A good understanding of cell factories and cell biology processes
  • Practical experience working with filamentous fungi (preferentially Aspergillus or Trichoderma) or other eukaryotes, such as yeast
  • Prior experience in utilizing and/or generating Omics data beneficial
  • Basic understanding of scripting using e.g. python
  • A data mindset: using data for experimental decision making
  • Motivated by working in a collaborative team setting as well as independently, both with a high degree of transparence
  • Be open-minded and curious towards how enzymes/proteins provide value in real applications
  • Comfortable with acquiring new knowledge and skills and rapidly putting them to good use
  • Have a positive and social mindset, preferably with a good sense of humor
