Historical Horizons: Shared Stories - an EU project
Are you involved in one of these: youth work, teaching, multimedia art, history, or computer science? Are you passionate about creativity, culture, and innovation? Are you curious on how we can share our historical records and turn them into storytelling? Are you seeking opportunities to enhance your skills, connect with like-minded professionals, and create lasting impact through youth work? If yes, this is your chance to be part of an inspiring journey!
What and When
Historical Horizons: Shared Stories (working title) is a one-week event in Copenhagen from September 21- 27 2023.
This project aims to empower you and other youth involved by unlocking the potential of cultural archives, equipping them with tools and methodologies to creatively engage young people with history, promote inclusive narratives, and leverage digital innovation to preserve cultural heritage. We want to promote critical thinking, and intercultural dialogue through creative approaches such as digital storytelling, cultural preservation, and multimedia engagement.
We will organize courses in: art, programming, music and history and culture. We use informal and informal learning in our workshops that will be hands-on where we share and discuss our perspectives. Participants do not need to be experts. We will have a nice time together and make new connections and friendships among people in games or education. In our project, we will understand history, storytelling and museums better by looking at how we can best share information about history and tell stories based on history. We expect to have this fully funded, and thus we will pay for stay, transportation and green meals (from breakfast to dinner) while in the event. Participating is free! Transportation to/from Copenhagen will be reimbursed.
Other than workshops we also plan to organize:
- Excursions and Cultural Visits: Visit museums, archives, and cultural sites in Copenhagen to gain real-world insights into storytelling and preservation.
- Creative Labs: Collaborate in teams to co-create innovative educational tools, including digital exhibits and cultural resources. Experiment with gamified learning methods to make history engaging for young people.
- Role-Playing and Simulations: Engage in hands-on activities like designing inclusive museum exhibits or solving real-world cultural challenges.
- Dissemination Activities: Contribute to advocacy campaigns and presentations to share project results. Help develop toolkits and digital archives that will be made accessible to youth workers globally.
Relevance of the Project:
The project addresses key challenges for multimedia storytellers and teachers who want to gain access to historical information. Currently, nonscholars have limited access to historical records and it is hard to search historical museum databases. Bridging the gap between cultural heritage and youth engagement fosters a deeper understanding of history’s relevance to contemporary social issues while equipping youth workers with digital skills and sustainable practices. These competencies are essential for creating impactful and inclusive learning experiences in a rapidly changing cultural and technological landscape.
