PhD Position in Operator Algebras

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a PhD position in operator algebras with a focus on the structure of nuclear C*-algebras and operator systems and generalized inductive limits. The starting date is June 1, 2025 (or nearby date).

Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a general interest in operator algebras and/or non-commutative geometry. The student is expected to hold a master’s degree in mathematics by the starting date for the position (June 1, 2025) and have a solid background within functional analysis and an interest in working within the field of operator algebras. The position is associated with the Inge Lehmann project “C*-algebras at the Limit: a new construction” funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark. The hired candidate will be supervised by Kristin (Courtney) Gabe.

Fluency in English is required.

About the Workgroup
The PhD student will belong to the Operator Algebra group within the Topology, Analysis, Algebra, and Geometry (TAAG) research section. The Operator Algebra group boasts several permanent faculty members working in operator algebras and noncommutative geometry. The TAAG section conducts research within a broad spectrum of pure mathematics, and the section has close ties with SDU’s Center for Quantum Mathematics.

Application, salary etc.
Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary (only available in Danish) and taxation.

The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
