The job
DTU Aqua offers a three-year position as ocean literacy officer. Your overall focus will be on supporting and coordinating part of DTU Aqua’s work across several EU projects, related to ocean literacy.

You will be employed in the Section for Public Consultancy located at our campus in Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark as a part of the institute’s team working on e.g. public engagement and strategic institute development.

The position is part of several larger EU Horizon projects related e.g. ocean carbon cycles, ocean conservation, and fisheries management. Your overall work and focus will be on scaling up the institute’s efforts in these projects, and e.g. coordinate ocean literacy activities related to upper secondary education across multiple EU countries and school systems.

By that, you will contribute to continuously test and evaluate the optimal approaches for increasing public understanding og ocean issues, and the opportunities for transformative change towards enhanced sustainable management of the world’s oceans, their biodiversity and related ecosystem services.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Work with early career researchers and upper secondary school teachers across Europe to develop teaching materials related to ongoing research and innovation projects
  • Explore optimal ways for increasing the uptake among teachers of produced materials together with partners in various Horizon Europe projects
  • Disseminate impact of the activities internally and externally, including through contributions to peer-reviewed publications
  • Contribute to the sections overall tasks including research activities in other sections on request based on your expertise

Our expectations of you
Desired traits and skills:

  • Curiosity and high motivation for accelerating marine research institution’s transfer of knowledge to society
  • Relevant educational background in marine science, i.e. Msc. or PhD
  • Practical experience as an upper secondary teacher or similar in science topics such as biology, chemistry, physics, geography etc.
  • Strong motivation for supporting international coordination and collaboration on Ocean Literacy initiatives driven by marine research institutions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English and Danish
  • Ability to work independently in an international environment

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The salary will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is three years.

Starting date is November 1st 2024, or according to mutual agreement. The position is located in Kgs. Lyngby and is part-time, with approximately 7.4 hours a week.
