The Saxo Institute,Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen (UCPH) invites applicants for a position as associate professor or tenure-track assistant professor in European ethnology. The position is available from 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The position as associate professor is a permanent, full-time position.
The position as tenure track assistant professor is a permanent, full-time position.
As an assistant professor in a permanent position your employment will change to employment as an associate professor after a maximum of six years, under the condition that you submit a request for the assessment of your professional qualifications, and you are deemed qualified for the position of associate professor.
The position may be applied for as a tenure-track assistant professor level or at associate professor level. Please note that it is possible to apply for the position at both levels. If applied for at both levels, separate applications must be submitted (see below).

Application

Applications must be submitted online. Click on the “Apply now” icon at the bottom of this advertisement to apply. The application must be written in English, and include the following enclosures in Adobe PDF or Word format:
- Letter of motivation.
- Curriculum vitae.
- Certificates and diplomas (including PhD diploma).
- Complete and numbered list of publications. The enclosed publications must be marked with*.
- Research plan, including a short description of previous research and a plan for the coming years that includes an account of involvement in organising research, establishment of research seminars, symposia, and congresses, etc.

- Publications. Applicants for the position as associate professor may choose a maximum of six publications while applicants for the position as tenure track assistant professor may choose a maximum of five for assessment. Of these publications at least two must have been published within the two years immediately preceding the deadline for applications. Publication dates must be clearly marked on the publication list. Should any material submitted consist of work with named co-authors, or work that is otherwise the result of collective academic endeavours, the extent of the applicant’s contribution to the work must be clearly specified. A signed statement from the co-authors specifying the extent and nature of everyone’s contribution must be included.
Only material in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English and German will be assessed.
Recruitment procedure
After the application deadline, the Head of Institute selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointment Committee. All applicants are notified whether their application has been accepted for assessment. The Head of Institute subsequently appoints an expert assessment committee tasked with carrying out an assessment of the selected applicants for the specific post. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee. Applicants are ultimately offered the opportunity of commenting on the part of the assessment relating to themselves before the appointment is finalized. Salary and conditions of employment
Terms of appointment and salary will be in accordance with an agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The salary range starts for Assistant Professor at DKK 40,600 (EUR 5,400) + a 17,1 % contribution to the pension scheme. It is possible to negotiate salary supplements on an annual basis.
