About the role
DFDS Graduate Programme is two-year fast track for recent graduates with experience and interest in the maritime industry. The programme is designed so that the on-the-job training will be accompanied by a formal education provided by the Danish Shipping Association. The Danish Shipping Education consists of webinars and four seminars in Denmark all covering different topics within the maritime industry.
While attending this programme you will be employed in DFDS, working in three different rotations. We will take you on an exciting yet challenging journey, placing you within diverse and talented teams starting out in our headquarters in Copenhagen, followed by one rotation in one of our ferry hubs in the UK, Benelux, Sweden, Italy, or Turkey. We haven’t yet decided where you will go for the last rotation – but we will find something interesting matching your competencies and our business need.
You will expand your competencies in various areas of the maritime industry getting hands-on experience with both the operational and commercial side of our Ferry Division and dependent on your background we see several possibilities.
Ferry Operations is a world that offers a broad end-to-end focus with sustainability, standardization, and digitalization in the heart of everything we do. More specifically you could work with:
- Design and build the vessels of tomorrow for a green future (Electrification, ammonia, and green methanol)
- Running and maintaining our fleet of + 70 RO/RO, ROPAX and Passengers vessels. This is everything from long term planning of dry docks to crisis management and contingency handling.
- Supporting the ambitious standardization and digitalization journey across 8 own and + 20 3rd party terminals, where safety is the main priority and cross-functional synergies the end goal.
- Operating the right Fleet and equipment pool or our intercontinental railway setup, that allows us to combine our Ferry and Logistic routes end-to-end.
In the commercial part of our Ferry division, we have functional teams in different European locations working inside B2C and B2B markets, and more specifically you would work with:
- Facilitating and assisting on local and global sales and general key account management ensuring our networks are sold global locally.
- Continuing being amongst “best in class” when it comes to customer service and booking procedure by working on standardization and digitization of our processes and procedures.
- IT on continuous improvement of our IT offerings.
- Optimization of route and vessel in close collaboration with our operational teams to ensure demand / requests from the markets are being met.
- Strong focus on our revenue operations and how we are pricing our products optimal.
In short you will be working with many highly skilled colleagues with the entire value chain: e.g., global customers, suppliers, and other service providers in the industry. For each rotation you will be assigned to a daily manager and a team mentor, to ensure that you get a good start into your role.
About you

- Have completed (or are in process of completing) a master’s or bachelor’s degree no more than a year prior to the start of the Programme – preferably within the maritime field, forwarding, freight supply chain or similar. You could also have a more financial/analytical background or maybe even a degree in sustainability.
- Have relevant work experience from a student job or internship
- Are a strong team player who values great collaboration, and is passionate about making an impact
- Are highly curious to learn and want to take part in a professional and individual development journey
