Special Consultant (Research Consultant) in Data Science Position at the Center for Health Data Science

Center for Health Data Science (HeaDS), Department of Public Health, is looking to hire a Research Consultant (Special Consultant) in data science, starting from 1 April 2025.
About Center for Health Data Science:
The aim of Center for Health Data Science, launched in March 2020, is to strengthen data science research and use, at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences (SUND). The Center functions as a hub for research groups throughout the Faculty to establish data science as a topic of research in its own right. The data lab within the Center provides data science support for all research groups at SUND and develops courses to improve the data science skills of the biomedical researchers at SUND. From 2025 HeaDS is part of Section for Health Data Science and AI in the Department of Public Health. Our philosophy is a relaxed work environment driven by inspired and independent people, and we hope that our new research consultant in data science will help us build upon this.
The Position:
The main task of a Research Consultant in the Data Lab is to assist researchers at the SUND with their health data science related issues, questions, and analysis. As a Research Consultant you will have a varied tasks which will include:
- Development, running and coordination of workshops, courses, seminars, etc for UCPH/SUND staff.
- Provide research consultancy service for research staff on a wide range of scientific topics and projects.
- Management, development and execution of specialized commissioned research projects (data science/bioinformatics pipelines). This includes initial negotiation and agreement preparation etc.
- Contribute to SUND Data Lab's strategic planning and broader HeaDS initiatives (vision, priorities), as well as the preparation of yearly reports.
- You are also expected to represent HeaDS, network, promote research collaborations, and participate in outreach at the Faculty and beyond.
Your academic profile:
- MSc or (preferably) PhD degree in bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, or a field of science relating to data science.
- Strong programming skills in R and Python.
- Familiarity with linux.
- Previous experience with one or more of the following research areas:
- Single cell analysis (RNA, DNA)
- RNAseq data (mapping, quantification, down-stream analysis)
- Quantitative mass spectrometry data (proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics).
- Genomics (DNA sequence analysis, GWAS analysis, population genetics).
- Biostatistical analysis of biomedical datasets (categorical and numerical).
- Analysis of biomedical images
- Machine learning approaches within the field of medical research.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Teaching experience.
Additional valued skills:
- A good understanding of HPC environments available through DeiC.
- Experience with code sharing and collaboration using git/github.
- Knowledge of additional programming languages (C/C++)
- Well-versed in working with large datasets, e.g., storage, data mangement, and computing.
- Knowledge of some or more of the following: Rmarkdown, Jupyter Notebooks, Latex, Keynote/Powerpoint, Illustrator or Photoshop.
- Familiar with sensitive medical data and GDPR compliance rules.

- Outgoing and good with people, and you enjoy teaching within your field of expertise.
- Proficient in English.
- Flexible and interested in taking on different tasks. As HeaDS is a newly established Center our priorities and assignments may change, and you may have to familiarize yourself with new procedures as we go along.
Terms of Employment:
The employment will be as Special Consultant in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Your salary level will be based on seniority, and a supplement may be negotiated. There is a monthly contribution to a pension fund (17.1% of the salary).
The starting date is 1 April 2025 and is an unlimited position.
