Postdoc in Medicinal Chemistry - DTU Chemistry
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)
Design and synthesis of proteolysis-targeted chimeras for mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). The project includes design, synthesis and characterize putative degraders based on known MAPK ligands. Effective and selective degraders will be further characterized in relevant disease models.
If you are establishing your career as a scientist and you are looking for the best possible foundation for fulfilling your dreams and ambitions, it is right here in front of you. At DTU Chemistry you will break new ground at the absolute forefront of what is possible within chemical biology and medicinal chemistry.
A one-and-a-half-year postdoc position is available within the Department of Chemistry, DTU. In this position you will perform research related to design and synthesis of proteolysis-targeted chimeras (PROTACs) for mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). The project is a collaboration with a research group at CSIC in Madrid and is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The position is within the research group in Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry headed by Prof. Mads H. Clausen.
Responsibilities and qualifications
The position offers an opportunity to work with a dynamic and multi-disciplinary project. You will carry out research in a team focused on developing targeted degraders of disease-related macromolecules. The research project will provide opportunities to design, synthesis, and characterize putative degraders based on known MAPK ligands. Effective and selective degraders will be further characterized in relevant disease models in vitro and in vivo. In this position you will have opportunities to work with undergraduate and graduate students as well.
You have an interest in medicinal chemistry and a desire to work in an interdisciplinary environment.
We are looking for a profile witha documented track record in synthetic chemistry and a desire to work with Medicinal Chemistry. You show a strong commitment to research, and you are enthusiastic about working with research students. You like to drive research and take ownership of your project and direction but also thrive in a team working closely together and feeding off each other’s ideas.
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in chemistry and a strong theoretical and experimental background in medicinal chemistry.
Open-minded knowledge sharing and constructive teamwork are key to the success of the project in total. Additionally, your CV comprises:
- A thorough interest in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology.
- Experience with design and synthesis of bioactive small molecules.
- A track record of communicating research results.
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:
- Relevance of education and previous experience.
- Passion for research and scientific discoveries.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English and good communication skills.
