Not all mechanical engineering is about advanced moving systems
At Onics, mechanical engineering is largely about creating products that work in practice — not just in CAD.
We develop our own IoT products and work closely with electronics, embedded software, production, and supply chain. Our products are manufactured in high volumes and place high demands on quality, robustness, and manufacturability.
That is why core mechanical engineering disciplines such as DFM, DFA, tolerance stacks, material selection, and production engineering understanding play a much bigger role than complex moving mechanical systems.
When a tolerance stack does not work.
When electronics, plastics, and heat affect each other.
When tooling performs inconsistently in production.
When a design works in CAD — but not in reality.
That is when the mechanical team needs to understand the bigger picture and drive the solution forward.
The role
As Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will become a central part of the development organization and work closely with hardware developers, production engineering, supply chain, and external suppliers.
The role sits close to both new product development and industrialization, where you will be responsible for ensuring that mechanical solutions work all the way from design to stable mass production.
You will also work closely with product management and external design agencies on early mechanical concepts and preliminary designs for future products.
Among other things, you will work with:
- product enclosures for electronic products
- injection molded plastic parts and smaller metal components
- DFM and DFA
- tolerance stacks and production tolerances
- design verification and validation
- tooling and supplier collaboration
- production fixtures
- integration between mechanics and electronics
- quality and compliance-related requirements
This is not a role where you only sit with mechanical design.
You will become an important technical sparring partner who can balance design, production, quality, and supplier management in practice.
At the same time, you are expected, as a senior profile, to contribute to the development of the team through technical mentoring and support for colleagues, interns, and student assistants.
This role is especially interesting if…
You have experience with mechanical development for mass-produced products and are motivated by working close to technology, quality, and production.
You likely come from a role such as:
- Mechanical Engineer
- Mechanical Design Engineer
- Product Development Engineer
- or similar
…and have strong experience with injection molded plastic components and design for manufacturing.
We especially imagine that you:
- have experience with DFM and DFA
- understand tolerance stacks and production tolerances
- understand the interaction between mechanics and electronics
- can challenge suppliers from both a technical and quality perspective
- naturally take ownership and follow issues through to completion
Experience with plastic springs, tooling, or compliance-related requirements is an advantage, but not essential.
What you will get from the role
You will get a role with broad technical scope and real influence on products, quality, and production.
At the same time, you will become part of a company where engineering plays a central role and where people work closely across disciplines to make complex products function in practice.
You will join an environment with:
- high technical competence
- significant technical complexity
- close collaboration between engineering and production
- short decision-making paths
- a high degree of responsibility and freedom
This is a role for someone who is motivated by making products work reliably, manufacturably, and at scale — even when the details become complex.
