Postdoc in Microchip Cooling Solutions with Two-Phase Heat Transfer - DTU Construct

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

If you are interested in next-generation microchip cooling solutions and have the ambition to solve energy crisis in AI industries, we have a perfect position ready for you.

We are looking for a full-time Postdoc to join the Section of Manufacturing Engineering at DTU Construct, the Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering.

In this role, you will work together with a group of colleagues with different backgrounds in nanofabrication, numerical simulations, and thermal experiments. You will design, fabricate, and integrate hierarchical microchannel heatsinks, which will be ready for test on AI chips with high energy densities. This project is supported by “RePower-HPC” under the framework of Det Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram, aiming for cutting-edge technologies for a sustainable and energy-efficient AI chip industry.

Responsibilities
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the competence of our section within the research of advanced thermal management based on microscale two-phase heat transfer. You will get access to the state-of-the-art cleanroom facilities and different testing equipment at CooLab. You will be engaged in a project with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad.

Your primary tasks will be:

  • Developing numerical models to understand two-phase heat transfer processes
  • Rational design of geometry in cooling devices
  • Cleanroom fabrication and packaging of microchannel heat sinks
  • Design and optimization of experimental setup to characterize cooling performance
  • On-chip integration for tests in an industry-relevant environment
  • Dissemination of your research through high-quality publications and conferences.
  • Teaching activities, e.g., special courses and supervision of PhD or MSc student projects.

Qualifications
We expect you to have a background within mechanical engineering, physics, or related fields.

Following competences will be desirable:

  • Numerical simulations with COMSOL or OpenFOAM
  • Cleanroom fabrication experience, especially in UV lithography, plasma etching, and wafer bonding
  • Experimental characterization of heat transfer processes
  • Good communication skills to work together with colleagues and to be fluent in English
  • Motivation and independency to work in a dynamic research environment.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 2 years.
