DTU Tenure Track Researcher in Use of alternative biomasses for hybrid foods - DTU Food

The DTU National Food Institute at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as researcher in the Research Group for Bioactives – Analysis and Application. The research field concerns development of innovative concepts that can enable the use of alternative biomasses for production of healthy, tasty and sustainable food products for the future with particular emphasis on hybrid foods.

The Research Group for Bioactives has a dynamic staff with high international visibility, many research collaborations with leading international universities and organisations and a successful track record of national and international research projects.

Responsibilities and qualifications
DTU National Food Institute performs research that contributes to the development of sustainable food production that can help the population to shift to a more sustainable diet. To succeed with this transition, inclusion of new alternative biomasses such as algae, insects, legumes in new food products is necessary without compromising sensory properties, safety and shelf life stability. Your overall focus will be to expand DTU National Food Institute’s research within this area with particular emphasis on:

  • Characterization of techno-functional properties of new biomasses and ingredients derived hereof
  • Development of new innovative concepts to modify properties of biomasses and ingredients
  • Development of novel concepts to combine ingredients from different types of biomasses to produce tasty hybrid foods
  • Development of technologies that can ensure high oxidative stability of novel hybrid foods including the use of delivery systems to incorporate sensitive ingredients
  • Transferring knowledge to the industry to increase the innovative power of both small and large companies

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:

  • Documented research experience in the field of utilization of different types of biomasses for the production of new food ingredients
  • Documented research in the field of lipid oxidation, antioxidants and the use of delivery systems (emulsions, encapsulated oils etc)
  • Demonstration of initiatives to start up new research collaborations
  • Research experience
  • Experience and quality of teaching
  • Research vision and potential
  • International impact and experience
  • Societal impact
  • Innovativeness, including commercialization and collaboration with industry
  • Leadership, collaboration, and interdisciplinary skills
  • Communication skills

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
