Research Assistant in Computational Audiology - DTU Health Tech

Danmarks Tekniske Universitet

We are looking for a motivated research assistant to contribute to computational audiology research in the Hearing Systems Section at DTU Health Tech.

The position is part of the preparatory research activities for the next phase of the Centre for Applied Hearing Research (CAHR), which focuses on linking biological profiles of hearing loss to perceptual outcomes and to the evaluation of hearing-aid processing strategies.

The research assistant will work on model-based approaches for understanding individual differences in hearing impairment. The work will primarily support the first research stream of the CAHR consortium, which aims to develop computational models that connect biologically plausible profiles of cochlear and neural damage to perceptual outcomes. Depending on progress and background, the position may also contribute to early activities related to the second research stream, concerned with how different hearing-aid preprocessing strategies affect auditory coding and predicted perceptual performance.

The position is intended as a six-month research appointment and will provide an opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment combining auditory science, computational modeling, psychoacoustics, and hearing technology.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your primary tasks will be to contribute to computational and data-driven analyses related to auditory modeling and hearing-loss profiling. Depending on your background and the needs of the project, your work may include:

  • implementing and testing auditory models of normal and impaired hearing;
  • analyzing how different biological profiles of cochlear or neural damage affect predicted perceptual outcomes;
  • working with behavioral, audiological, and/or model-simulation data;
  • contributing to the development of model-based links between biological endotypes and perceptual phenotypes;
  • supporting literature review and scientific documentation related to computational audiology, auditory profiling, and hearing-aid processing;
  • preparing code, figures, and summaries for internal project use and future publications; and
  • collaborating with researchers, PhD students, and faculty members in the Hearing Systems Section.

As a formal qualification, you must have a master’s degree in engineering or equivalent.

We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The period of employment is 6 months. The position is full-time and is expected to start on 15 July 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Application procedure
Your complete online application must be submitted no later than 2 July 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Applications must be submitted as one PDF file containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link "Apply now", fill out the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include:

  • Application (cover letter)
  • CV
  • Academic Diplomas (MSc)
  • Grade transcripts
  • Names and contact details of relevant references
  • Any additional material that documents relevant programming, modelling, or research experience, if available

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.

The position is placed in the Hearing Systems Section at DTU Health Tech. The section conducts research in auditory signal processing and perception, speech communication, technical and clinical audiology, auditory neuroscience, objective measures of auditory function, computational models of hearing, hearing-instrument signal processing, and multisensory perception. Our goal is to advance the understanding of the human auditory system and to generate insights that support technical and clinical applications, including speech recognition systems, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and diagnostic tools for hearing assessment.
