Research Assistant of circular economy

Department of People and Technology, Roskilde University, invites applications for a position as Research Assistant of circular economy from 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position as research assistant is limited to a period of 6 months.

The Department of People and Technology at RUC is the university's largest department, encompassing a wide range of disciplines centered on the interactions between humans, society, and technology. The positions as research assistant is associated with the TRANSITIONS group that explores circular economy, sustainable energy systems and agrifood systems (https://forskning.ruc.dk/da/organisations/transitions/).

Responsibilities and tasks
The research assistant will work on the Circular South Baltic project and contribute to ongoing research activities in close collaboration with Ph.D. Martin Visby Buchard and Professor Thomas Budde Christensen. Circular South Baltic is an international research project, funded by the EU, with 7 partners from 5 countries around the Baltic Sea. The project aims to facilitate a circular transition within the construction sector, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. The project aims to transfer technology and knowledge between borders and across national borders, and to build networks for suppliers and customers in the construction industry (https://ehsj.dk/content/ydelser/circular-south-baltic-csb/5ee08a57-ac01-4a33-9364-c596f1bbb8ad/).

The main research task of the research assistant is an assist with an evaluation and analysis of the introduction of selective demolition requirements in the Danish demolition sector. The research assistant is expected to help and contribute with obtaining qualitative and quantitative data from Danish demolition companies that have implemented selective demolition procedures.

Tasks and activities include:

  • Quantitative and qualitative data collection: qualitative interviews with companies in construction and demolition sector and collection of quantitative data from demolition projects and data systems
  • Data management and analysis (under support and supervision)
  • Ongoing project activities in the Circular South Baltic project (some travelling is also expected)

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master degree or equivalent within sustainability, urban planning, geography, engineering or similar. The ideal candidate has knowledge and competences within the following four areas, however, candidates who only have knowledge in two or three will also be taken into consideration:

  • Knowledge about circular economy
  • Knowledge about the construction sector
  • Experience with qualitative interview
  • Experience with collection and analysis of quantitative data

As interviews will be carried out in Danish, it is required that the candidate is able to speak Danish. The working language in the Circular South Baltic project is otherwise English and written outputs from the project is produced in English.

Assessment
In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to;

  • Experience with qualitative interviews
  • Experience with collection and analysis of quantitative data
  • Knowledge about construction industry
  • Knowledge about circular economy

Terms of employment
The employment is full time, 37 hours per week, and you will refer to head of Head of Department, Peter Kjær.

The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.
