Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU)

We seek a postdoc with expertise in mast cells and/or allergic immune regulation to join our mission to improve the lives of individuals experiencing brain fog in airway allergy and asthma.
Are you the next pioneer in the immunology of airway allergy and asthma?
We are seeking a curious, talented and pro-active postdoc with a background in immunology, neuroimmunology and/or neurology to join our mission to significantly improve the everyday life of individuals experiencing brain fog in airway allergy and asthma. The Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for an 18-months postdoc position starting 1 December 2024 or as soon as possible.

About the postdoc project
As a postdoc focusing on mast cell regulation in the lung and at the brain borders, you will get a unique opportunity to contribute to pioneering research within lung-to-brain immunology. Specifically, you will work on a project that aims to determine the role for brain border mast cells and histamine in the symptoms of brain fog in airway allergy and asthma. The position involves ample opportunities for personal development, and you will develop new methods and use state-of-the-art techniques. You are in turn encouraged to take part in teaching and supervision opportunities.

Your main tasks will be

  • To design and execute single cell and high-dimensional flow cytometry experiments.
  • To assess behavior in allergic asthma in vivo models.
  • To maintain genetically modified in vivo models.
  • To perform independent research and to publish findings of high international quality.
  • To contribute to student supervision and collaborative projects.
  • To present findings at scientific conferences and in scientific publications.

The project is funded by an LF experiment grant from the Lundbeck Foundation and will be supervised by Assistant Professor Anna Hammerich Thysen.

Your competences
To thrive in the position, you bring:

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) in Immunology, Neuroimmunology, or Neurology.
  • A proficiency in single cell analysis, immunohistochemistry, and/or flow cytometry.
  • A flair for computational analysis of larger data sets.
  • A curious mind and an enthusiasm for science.
  • An interest in developing new experimental procedures.
  • A pro-active and problem-solving approach to science.
  • An ability to drive independent research projects.
  • A willingness to positively interact and collaborate with colleagues.
  • A persistence to work on challenging tasks.
  • A track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

You are not expected to enter with a full range of technical skills but experience with the following tasks is a plus:

  • Imaging and/or histology.
  • In vivo models of airway or allergic diseases.
  • Assessment of animal behavior.
  • Primary immune cell isolation and culture.
  • qPCR.
  • ELISA.
  • Genotyping.

About the research group
You will join a highly driven and cross-functional research team. Your daily work will be led by Assistant Professor Anna Hammerich Thysen, and you will work closely with another postdoc, MSc students, and lab technicians.
