Your role and responsibilities
ABB Robotics is at the forefront of industrial automation and robotics innovation. We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer with a strong background in industrial applications and robotics to join our dynamic R&D team. Our cutting-edge solutions include advanced machine tending systems that enhance efficiency and precision in manufacturing environments. By integrating AI-driven solutions with vision systems, we enable robots to perform complex tasks with greater accuracy, adaptability, and autonomy. These vision-enabled systems allow for real-time object recognition, enhanced decision making, and optimized workflows. As part of our team, you will contribute to the development of these intelligent systems on a global scale, shaping the future of automation and robotics across diverse industries worldwide. This role is located at our R&D facility for machine tending in Jönköping. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop, enhance, and maintain software components for both legacy and newly developed systems in robotics and industrial automation. With a strong focus on AI-driven and vision-enabled solutions, you will be responsible for ensuring the stability and performance of existing systems while driving innovation in new developments. Each day, you will provide accurate project schedule estimates and ensure successful task completion within deadlines. You will demonstrate your expertise in software engineering, contributing to the creation and maintenance of intelligent systems for global automation solutions. This role contributes to the Robotics and Discrete Automation division at ABB on a global scale. You will be mainly accountable for: •Performing a variety of software engineering tasks, including the development, enhancement, and maintenance of both old and newly developed systems, covering software quality, testing, DevOps, cybersecurity, software release, support, and maintenance. •Contributing to the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and prototyping to design, coding, testing, release, and longterm maintenance and operations. •Ensuring structured and maintainable code with appropriate documentation, supporting longterm maintenance and ease of future updates. •Utilizing software architecture and design patterns to enhance modularity, strengthen system integration, and optimize coupling in both existing and new systems.
Qualifications for the role
- Bachelor’s / master’s degree in Electronics, Computer science or related field.
- Proficient Communication skills in English and Swedish.
- C#, .NET, WinForms: Developing and maintaining robust desktop applications for both legacy systems and new industrial automation solutions.
- SQL: Managing and optimizing databases to ensure efficient data handling
- Vision Systems: Utilizing Image Libraries and other vision processing tools to vision capabilities in both legacy and modern systems
- Git & Azure: Managing version control and CI/CD pipelines to ensure reliable software updates and maintenance across all systems.
- Linux: Operating effectively in Linux-based environments.
