Background
Education Out Loud (EOL) supports civil society in shaping education policy to better meet the needs of communities, especially the most marginalized. We promote inclusive, gender responsive and equitable national education policies and systems through enhanced civil society capacities and participation in social accountability and policy advocacy processes.
Managed by Oxfam Denmark and financed by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), EOL is the biggest fund in the world for education advocacy with grants awarded to app. 80 organisations in more than 60 countries. Created in 2019, the EOL programme runs to mid-2027 with a total funding envelope of USD 133m.
The EOL programme consists of a Global Management Unit (GMU) based at Oxfam Denmark’s offices in Copenhagen, Denmark, and four Regional Management Units (RMUs) located with Oxfam offices in Senegal, Guatemala, Nepal, and Uganda. Altogether, our grant agent set-up for EOL comprises 29 full time positions.
Communication in EOL is about ensuring that the right content is created in ways that speak to a diverse international target group. To succeed, strong internal coordination on content creation and dissemination is essential. Issues we cover include civic engagement in the Global South and advocacy on education policy. We target national, regional and global education stakeholders, including peer civil society actors, government and intergovernmental representatives, the donor community and to some extent the broader public with an interest in the Global South. About the job
Consolidating EOL communications efforts, we are looking for a Communication Advisor that would be charged with the following two key issue-areas:
Development and implementation of the EOL communication strategy
Ensuring that the EOL communication strategy remains relevant and leading its continued implementation. A strong understanding of the EOL set-up and each actors’ role is crucial (GPE, Oxfam Denmark as the grant agent and EOL grantees).
Coordination of content creation and dissemination
Ensuring that there is a continued production and dissemination of substantive and varied content in the form of news articles, change stories and blog posts. Currently, this is distributed primarily via the EOL newsletter and website. The Communication Advisor would be expected to also produce content and lead in exploring alternative approaches and media.
Roles and responsibilities
Reporting to the Global Programme Manager and in consultation with relevant team members, the Communication Advisor will
- be responsible for the EOL communication strategy, and
- lead and quality assure content creation, which currently includes coordinating inputs from a team of three programme assistants based in Nepal, Senegal and Uganda, and continuous liaison with GPE communication stakeholders. The Advisor will also undertake content creation in addition to supporting and overseeing contributions from others.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate would have the following qualifications and experiences:
- Advanced degree (journalism, communication, international studies or similar) or comparable experience in a relevant field with at least 3-5 years of post-graduate experience
- Experience with developing and managing communication strategies for development or humanitarian programmes or organizations of comparable complexity
- Experience with continuous content production on development or humanitarian issues; an asset if on civil society engagement/advocacy or education in the Global South
- Experience with successfully coordinating inputs from a wide range of stakeholders
- Excellent and proven verbal and written English communications skills, including strong copy/editing skills in English
Desirable
- Experience from longer or shorter placements in the Global South
- Competencies in French, Spanish, Portuguese and/or Arabic
- Technical skills in various media (e.g. video or podcast production, photography)
- Experience with creating, editing and distributing newsletters (Mailchimp) and website management (Wordpress)
Further information and application process
The job location is Copenhagen, Denmark. Our package is based on the Danish public sector salary system and dependent on experience. We offer an open-ended contract. This is a full-time role equivalent to 37 hrs / week. Some travel is expected.
