The successful candidate will be placed within the Unit for Health Promotion and at the Department of Public Health and will be connected to the research team around the project Men on the edge. The team of supervisors will consist of Professors Pernille Tanggaard Andersen, Charlotte Overgaard and Anja Leppin from the Department of Public Health.

Project description
This PhD is embedded within a project funded by TRYGfonden, which aims to explore and understand the specific characteristics of men living on the edge of society. The project seeks to generate new insights into the underlying mechanisms and interactions driving the profound inequalities in their physical and mental health. Additionally, it aims to develop the necessary knowledge to create relevant interventions to prevent marginalization, reduce inequalities, and improve health and well-being for this group.
To achieve this, we will investigate:

    • What characterizes this group of men,
    • The challenges they face in their social encounters and relationships, and
    • The initiatives that may be effective in promoting resilience and health among these men.
Furthermore, the study will identify determinants/predictors of (or risk factors for) men’s movement towards “the edge” across different life stages. The study will have a special focus on the specific challenges faced by men on the edge of society during two significant transitional phases between the following life stages:

Age group 20-35 years and age group 55-70 years.

Methods are likely to include literature studies and field research and interviews. The knowledge from these studies will be used in the project and second step of the overall research projects, which aims to develop a guidance and recommendation for future studies and interventions for men on the edge.

The candidate will be enrolled at the PhD School in the Faculty of Health Sciences. Information about the Ph.D. school, available PhD courses for student training, course obligations and other information can be found on the webpage.
