Subsea Flexible Riser Analysis Engineer
National Oilwell Varco Denmark I/S
Subsea Flexible Riser Analysis Engineer
Overview
Join Our Team and Shape the Future of Offshore Engineering!
Are you passionate about offshore engineering and eager to tackle complex challenges in a dynamic environment? Do you have a knack for structural analysis and a keen eye for detail? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! NOV Subsea Production Systems, based in Brøndby, Copenhagen, Denmark, is seeking a talented engineer for performing structural analysis of subsea flexible pipe systems to join our innovative team and contribute to groundbreaking projects in the energy sector.
In NOV SPS, part of the Fortune 500 company NOV, we power the industries that power the world. Our core business is engineering, manufacturing, and delivering high-quality flexible pipe systems for our clients around the world.
NOV SPS consists of about 1500 colleagues based in Denmark, Brazil, Norway, the UK, and US, including flexible pipe production plants in Kalundborg, Denmark and Açu, Brazil.
You’ll be joining a business unit with approximately 40 different nationalities, with customers based all around the world.
Your New Role
Joining one of our two local teams in the Pipe System Design department, each consisting of around 15 Danish and international engineers, you will play a crucial role in designing our flexible pipe systems, from modeling the dynamic offshore environment and simulating the behavior of the structures to calculating loads and evaluating the integrity of flexible pipes and subsea structures. In collaboration with other engineering disciplines, you will be modeling all the components together as a system using the finite element analysis-based software Orcaflex, designing the whole subsea configuration and calculating loads to assess the integrity and feasibility of the different components like the pipe cross section, the end-fittings, and subsea structures. You will design the configuration of the flexible risers whether it’s in free-hanging, lazy wave, or other configurations, defining required pipe lengths and ancillary components such as bend stiffeners and buoyancy modules.
You will be part of our global and international Engineering department, based in Brøndby, Copenhagen, Denmark, where we work on several major flexible pipe projects at a time in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will take part in a range of tasks in the projects, where you can leverage your skills as an engineer to succeed.
You will receive comprehensive support and training to master the specifics of the role, and we will assign a buddy/mentor to get you started. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting comprehensive global analysis of flexible pipes and offshore structures under various extreme operating conditions.
- Performing hydrodynamic and structural simulations to assess the impact of environmental forces, such as waves, currents, and tides.
- Analyzing the mechanical behavior of flexible pipes, considering factors like bending, axial tension, compression, and torsion.
- Evaluating extreme environmental conditions like 100-year events, operational fatigue life conditions, as well as installation scenarios to ensure a safe deployment and maintenance-free operation of the pipes for 20+ years.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineering disciplines, our sales department, project management, supply chain, planning, operations, manufacturing, etc., to ensure efficient and successful project execution.
- Collaborating and communicating with our customers, independent verification parties, installation contractors, and other external stakeholders.
- Preparing detailed technical reports and documentation to communicate analysis results and recommendations for handling, installation and operation.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards (API Spec 17J and RP17B), regulations, and safety requirements.
About You
From the moment you start your career in NOV, we will support your personal and professional development. While we welcome both newly graduated as well as experienced engineers to apply, we have identified some skills and competencies that we believe will set you up for success in your new role:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience in structural analysis and dynamic simulation, preferably within the offshore industry.
- Proficiency in finite element analysis software Orcaflex or similar.
- Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, hydrodynamic loading, wave theory, fatigue analysis, and nonlinear behavior of materials.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English on a professional level.
Why Join Us?
