PhD Position: Transforming Colorectal Cancer Prevention through Microbiome Modulation Center for Surgical Science (CSS), Zealand University Hospital,
Region Sjælland
We are excited to offer a 3-year PhD position starting in February 2025 or as early as possible thereafter, focusing on the groundbreaking ENABLED project. Join us in pioneering innovative, personalized approaches to colorectal cancer prevention by exploring the modulation of the intestinal microbiome to reduce polyp recurrence and colorectal cancer risk.
About CSS and Our Research
CSS is a multidisciplinary research hub uniting experts in medicine, molecular biology, data science, bioinformatics, and more. Our mission is to revolutionize colorectal cancer care, reduce complications, and improve patient outcomes. Through advanced research methodologies, we aim to leverage cutting-edge data and technologies to deliver individualized care.
About the ENABLED Project
The ENABLED study is a paradigm-shifting project in colorectal cancer prevention, addressing the potential of microbiome modulation to reduce polyp recurrence. Key aspects of the study include:
- International Multicenter Collaboration: Investigating the effects of local antibiotic applications (metronidazole and fosfomycin) during colonoscopy on polyp recurrence and new polyp development.
- Targeting Dysbiosis: Examining the role of microbiome imbalance in the development of dysplasia and polyposis, and testing if local microbiome modulation can reverse this state.
- Comprehensive Translational Research: Analyzing the bacterial tumor microenvironment and biomarkers linked to dysbiosis, advancing knowledge in colorectal cancer prevention.
This project has the potential to redefine prevention strategies by addressing the root causes of polyp formation and recurrence.
