Clinical Researcher in Diabetes Epidemiology at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus, Aarhus University Hospital

The epidemiology group at Steno Diabetes Center Aarhus is recruiting a clinical researcher in the field of Diabetes Epidemiology as per 1 February 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position is a fixed-term part-time (50%) position for 2 years.

About the research project
The wider SERIAL project aims to understand multiple chronic conditions, including diabetes and its complications at the population level based on data from Danish registers and cohort studies as well as the UK Biobank.

The current position focuses on the development of population-wide prediction models for type 1 diabetes at different ages, exclusively using data available from the Danish registers, and a family linkage approach. Furthermore, the project will examine whether register-based data can identify common disease patterns (e.g. among conditions with a strong inflammatory or auto-immune component) that are linked to T1D risk in individuals and their families, applying both traditional epidemiological and machine learning approaches.

Your job responsibilities
As clinical researcher in Diabetes Epidemiology your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the research group through research of high international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with colleagues on your project, where you will receive supervision and guidance.

Your main tasks will consist of

• independent research of high international quality, including publication
• designing, preparing and executing epidemiological research projects, including data handling, preparation and statistical analyses. In particular, advanced epidemiological approaches such as mediation analysis and prediction modelling
• writing manuscripts that report the findings, including coordination with co-authors
• presentation of research results at institutional, national and international research meetings
• active participation in activities in the research group, such as group meetings, code review sessions.

Your Competences

• You have academic qualifications at PhD level in the area of Human Medicine, Epidemiology, Statistics or Health Sciences, preferably with a focus on chronic diseases (particularly diabetes) multimorbidity, or their major determinants.
• Experience in planning, setting up and conducting epidemiological research. Experience in conducting register-based analyses, or analyses based on large cohort studies is a strong asset
• Experience in independently planning and executing statistical data analysis plans in the R statistical programming language.
• A track record of peer-reviewed publications in international research journals, and experience in presentation of research results for international audiences
• Strong organizational skills, an analytically creative mindset and an interest in diabetes epidemiology
• As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment. We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
