Overall purpose of the role:

The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member is responsible for conducting all reasonable activities within his/her respective team to which he/she has been trained and assigned by his manager and assisting in all aspects related to mine action in the Libyan context to fully support DRC/DDG’s mine action operations. Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member shall coordinate with appropriate local or competent authorities, DRC/DDG operations, Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) Operations Coordinator, and safety department as required, to ensure that it is safe to conduct HMA activities in an area and to avoid disruptions in the work of the authority, the police, or the military. In order to perform the assigned tasks, one must be in a state of good physical and psychological condition.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Conducting all reasonable humanitarian mine action activities within your respective team to which have been trained and assigned by the line manager.
  • Conduct any other tasks that have been trained to carry out.
  • Support the other HMA teams to conduct other reasonable tasks as directed by the Team Lead, TFM or Operations Manager.
  • Conform to IMAS, and LibMAS and all applicable SOP’s.
  • The ongoing acquisition and relaying of information about the current site and other priority tasks within the area of operations to the Team lead to enable accurate reporting.
  • Ensure the security of all equipment assigned by the Team Lead.
  • Personally, check the serviceability of the equipment assigned by the Team Lead at regular intervals, and report any defects or faults as soon as reasonably possible to the Team Lead/TFM/EORE-NTS PM/OM immediately for servicing or re-supply.
  • Report any loss of equipment to the Team Lead.
  • Ensure high standards of discipline and conduct are adhered to.
  • Working with a team spirit and being respectful to all team Leaders/Technical Field Managers, EORE-NTS PM, Operations Manager, and fellow Operators.
  • Report to the Team Lead for work assignments.
  • Report completion of work assignments, personnel attendance, disciplinary issues, logistical issues, and security information to the Team Lead.
  • Drive DRC cars during operational time, when required, and adhere to the rules and requirements of driving set by the organization and local authorities.
  • Conduct any other reasonable task as directed by the Team Lead, TFM, EORE-NTS PM, or Operations Manager.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • IMAS EOD level 2
  • IMAS EOD level 3 is preferred
  • NTS and EORE qualification is preferred.
  • Vocational school. Higher education.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Arabic.
  • Good knowledge of the English language speaking and writing.
  • Mine action background and an understanding of INGO terminology and processes.
  • Other relevant qualifications or training courses.
  • An understanding and commitment to DDG/DRC aims and values.
  • IT skills; Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Team player.
  • Full driving license.
  • Physically fit.

Miscellaneous:

  • The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member is based in the Tripoli area and may expect to spend long days in the field to conduct his/her work as described.
  • The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member is expected to conduct his/her work loyally and efficiently; and show initiative and commitment towards the goals and objectives of the project and HMA in general.
  • The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member will work a flexible program regarding start and finish times as agreed with the Operations Management, however, this should not exceed the number of hours agreed in their contract.
  • The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member should keep a log of the hours they have worked, to be submitted to the Team Lead regularly for inspection.
  • Unless specifically stated, The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member is expected not to conduct any other business or work during their employment at DRC/DDG.
  • To perform the assigned tasks, The Humanitarian Mine Action Team Member must be in a state of good physical and psychological condition.
