Assistant Professor in Pharmacology at Department of Biomedical Sciences

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic Assistant Professor for a 4-year, to commence 1. April 2025.
The position is intended to support a new study branch merging molecular and translational pharmacology research with food and nutrition sciences.

Our research
The Department of Biomedical Sciences has a focus on basic and translational biomedicine, and integration of these topics. The staff includes graduates in medicine and natural sciences, with interests spanning physiology, biochemistry, anatomy, pharmacology and clinical medicine. The staff delivers high quality research-based and clinically-relevant undergraduate teaching on courses within biomedicine, and supervise postgraduate students enrolled in the Graduate School. The Department is supported by a solid team of laboratory technicians and administrative staff.

Your job
Your task would be conducting and supervising research in the scope of biological activity of nutrients, with special focus on in vitro pharmacology. You will actively participate in publication/academic dissemination and attraction of external funding, as well as research-based and student-activating teaching within the Department’s portfolio of courses.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:
Essential experience and skills:
- You have a PhD in molecular biology, biotechnology, molecular pharmacology or related fields.
- You are highly experienced in in vitro studies of biological activity of nutrients (primarily nutrient-derived lipids), pharmacology studies of G protein-coupled receptors, as well as studies in insulin and incretin hormones secreting cell lines.
- You have an active interest in teaching, especially of biochemistry-related subjects.
- You have a history of high-quality research proven by peer-reviewed publications and securing external funding for research with successful grant applications.
- Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams.
- Excellent English skills written and spoken.
Desirable experience and skills:
- Knowledge of food sciences, including experience in in vitro simulations of food digestion.
- Experience in in vitro suspension and 3-dimensional cell cultures, including primary tissues (e.g. pancreatic islets), and applying kinetic methods of secretion assessment (e.g. perfusion).
- Teaching qualifications and experience in research-based teaching.
- International academic mobility.
- Bridging collaboration between academia and industry.
Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 30 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 4 years. The starting date is 1. April 2025 or soon thereafter.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 31.277,82 DKK/approx. 4,192,54 EUR (April 2024 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.
