The Department of Sustainability and Planning at The Technical Faculty of IT and Design invites applications for a position as Assistant Professor in the field of Energy Planning as per 1 May 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed term full time position for a period of 3 years. The department was established in 1975. Today, we are located in two beautiful harbour-front locations in Aalborg and Copenhagen. We have more than 250 employees and approximately 1,160 students. Our research and study programmes are rooted in sustainability and the green transition. This means we conduct research in areas such as circular economy, technology, urban-, energy-, and environmental planning, as well as sustainable transition and design. Sustainability is central to our work in environmental assessment and marine management. In surveying and land use, sustainability is reflected in our efforts in nature restoration and climate adaptation. As society continues to develop digitally, we also focus on responsible technology development, addressing real-life challenges. Our problem-oriented approach and close collaboration with businesses and public organisations form the foundation of all our study programmes. Additionally, our engineering programmes are among the best in Europe.

Your job responsibilites
As Assistant Professor of Energy Planning your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at bachelor's and master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.

Your main tasks will consist of:

      • Independent research of the highest international quality, including publication
      • Teaching, guidance and examination of bachelor's and master's degree students, as well as possible supervision of PhD students.
      • Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.

You will report to the Head of Department, Anne Merrild Hansen.

Your competences
You have independent research-related qualifications at international level and a PhD degree in Energy Planning or a related field. You are a clear communicator, and you have some degree of experience of supervision and teaching at bachelor's and master's degree level. Completed pedagogical courses in supervision or similar will be a plus, as will experience with external research collaborations. We also draw attention to a stay or employment at one or more internationally recognised research institutions.

Research areas will be within energy planning of holistic renewable smart energy systems with a focus on spatial energy system analysis and the use of GIS. Special attention is given to the broader cross-sectoral approach. The applicant should demonstrate experience with developing and applying advanced GIS tools and coupling these to energy system modelling for local, national and international systems. Experience with programming and visualization, as well as the coupling of different energy system models and/or methodologies, is an advantage.

Teaching will be within the Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Planning and Management on the topics within energy system analysis. Teaching in other studies programs at the University may occur.

As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.

We expect you to be able to write and speak English at the academic level.

Løn og ansættelsesvilkår
The employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministerial Order on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the state(AC collective agreement)(only in Danish) and circular concerning protocol on certain terms of employment of academic staff at universities(only in Danish).
