Your role and responsibilities
You will be part of the Robotics team at ABB Research in Västerås Sweden. In our role as ABB Research, we ensure ABB's technology competitiveness now and in future. In the Robotics team we focus on mechatronics concepts, design and machine intelligence in both industrial and service robot segments. Our research activities usually formulated as technology pre-study and technology development projects. We work closely with ABB's robotics business to ensure our research will bring unique value for ABB business. At the same time, we have close collaboration with academic world to bridge the academic and industrial research. In this team, one of our historical highlights is the creation and development of the dual-arm YuMi robot concept and the mobile YuMi concept. In this position, you will play a key role in the WARA Robotics project, supporting researchers and engaging in various robotics research topics and projects. Your responsibilities will include maintaining and further developing research infrastructures, as well as actively seeking collaborations with academic and industrial research partners. The role focuses on robotics software development, with an emphasis on areas such as robot control, manipulation, vision, mapping, navigation for mobile robotics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. You will work with ABB industrial and collaborative robots, robotics sensors, and other mechatronic devices, and operate robots in both real-world and simulated environments to support and develop new robotics technologies. Additionally, you will create technical documentation to assist visiting researchers and engineers collaborating with WARA Robotics. Working as part of an agile and international team, you are expected to adapt to a fast-paced environment and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Qualifications for the role
- A Master's or PhD degree in robotics, software engineering, or a related field such as computer science.
- Solid theoretical knowledge and practical experience in various fields of robotics.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python, along with experience in software engineering practices.
- Familiarity with ABB RAPID and RobotStudio, as well as hands-on experience in robot commissioning, is considered advantageous.
- Experience working with Linux, software version control systems, and ROS 2 is beneficial.
- Fluency in English, as it is the primary working language.
