Software or DevOps Engineer at Danish National Genome Center
Nationalt Genom Center
Would you love to develop and integrate new solutions for the development of personalized medicine in Denmark and across Europe? At the Danish National Genome Center we are establishing a world-class national High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure for Precision Medicine – and we are looking for a new engineer for our interdisciplinary team of ambitious and engaged colleagues.
About the Danish National Genome Center
The Danish National Genome Center’s primary task is to establish the foundation for the development of better diagnostics and more targeted treatments using Whole Genome Sequencing. The Center has a national responsibility to develop state of the art infrastructure to enable analysis on big biomedical heterogenous data.
One of the Danish National Genome Center’s main goals is to be at the forefront of new big data solutions in the healthcare domain. The Danish National Genome Center is working with high performance computing as a service (HPCaaS) and different types of infrastructure and cloud services. This include the full stack from network, servers, storage, applications, users and cross-cutting processes in a Linux software environment.
About the position
We are looking for a profile who have either worked as infrastructure or DevOps engineer – or a new graduate with a master’s degree in computer science or a closely-related field. You’ll be part of a small team within the Section for Health, Research and International Relations. The team is contributing to the center’s new infrastructure effort. You’ll be responsible for driving technical solutions from proof-of-concept to production. One of our core technologies is Nix; but don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar, you’ll have the time to learn.
On a day to day basis, you are expected to work collaboratively with the team to develop the center’s infrastructure. This will include evaluating technologies to solve technical challenges, deploying and maintaining core services, automating recurring tasks, reviewing code produced by other team members, and assisting other teams with their technical needs. You will also engage with end users (mainly researchers and public agencies) advising on how to use the infrastructure and develop customized solutions to key users. The position will also give you the possibility to participate in European projects.
Professional qualifications
You have ideally demonstrated expertise and experiences in:
- Infrastructure as code through a declarative approach e.g. Nix/NixOS – or a willingness to learn it
- Building solutions to complex problems from simple, existing technologies
- Git version control, and interacting with multi-user repositories (merge/pull requests and code review)
- CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous delivery)
It would be a plus to have experience with or knowledge of some of the following:
- Strongly typed languages and functional programming
- Systems administration geared towards infrastructure
- Virtualization technologies
- Running infrastructure on bare-metal servers
- Networking topologies and design
- Data Protection by design and by Default
- Identity and access management solutions, ideally integrations with eID/MitID
Personal qualifications
Our ideal candidate:
- Is committed and takes initiative to reach a goal
- Is able to collaborate with others on large, complex projects
- Works well in a team, sharing knowledge and learning from others
- Is proficient in English at a professional level, both written and spoken. Basic Danish skills or an ambition to learn is a requirement.
- Keeps up-to-date with the latest technical advances and enjoys the development process. If you are an open source programmer, we would be interested in looking at your public contributions
