PhD Position available in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Southern Denmark
Syddansk Universitet (SDU)
Application deadline: 5 Marts 2025 at 23:59 hours local Danish time
A PhD position in inorganic chemistry is currently available at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Pharmacy.
Project Background
Today, catalysts are at some point involved in the manufacture of ~80% of all goods. The urgent need to transition away from fossil-fuel dependent technologies demands new catalysts.
This project will focus on the design and synthesis of new metal–organic network structures featuring low-valent metal- or metal cluster-nodes. These nodes will be inspired by organometallic species and will serve as well-defined active-sites for catalysis in crystalline, solid-state materials. Thorough characterisation of the atomic and electronic structures will be crucial to our ability to unravel how structure influences catalytic performance (activity, selectivity and stability).
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have experience in synthetic inorganic chemistry. Hands-on experience with air- and moisture-sensitive synthetic techniques is strongly desired. In addition, experience in any of the following methods will be advantageous: Single-crystal crystallography, Powder X-ray diffraction, NMR, UV-vis, IR and Luminescence spectroscopy, electrochemistry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
The candidate will hold a M.Sc. in chemistry. We expect good interpersonal and communication (English) for effective teamwork across disciplines.
Informal enquiries about the position are welcome to James McPherson ([email protected]).
Application deadline: 5 Marts 2025 at 23:59 hours local Danish time
Starting date of the position will be 1 June 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is one of four departments at the Faculty of Science, SDU and is located in Odense. The Department of Physics, Chemistry and Pharmacy is a department focused on basic research. We are happy to move beyond traditional disciplines and work to develop new technologies and sciences across physics, chemistry, pharmacy, mathematics, computer science and biology. The department’s research thus contributes to new knowledge and solutions with applications in the areas of climate, environment, energy, and health.
The Ph.D. candidate will be part of the Section for Chemistry and Pharmacy.
