Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in India?
We offer:
A traineeship of 6 months within the Sustainable Modernisation (SuMo) Section of the EU Delegation to India, starting in May 2025.
The Sustainable Modernisation Section of the Delegation follows developments in the policy areas that are most relevant to India’s ongoing decarbonisation journey and transition to ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 – energy, climate, environment, industrial policy and transport, including the implementation of cooperation frameworks and policy dialogues such as the EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership. The broad political framework is provided by the EU-India strategic partnership and roadmap to 2025, which will be updated later in the year.
The section works with stakeholders in India, including ministries, think tanks, Member State’s representatives and businesses, and liaises with colleagues in the European External Action Service in Brussels and the relevant departments of the European Commission – notably the Directorates-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs; Mobility and Transport; Energy; Climate Action; and Environment.
Main tasks:
- Analysis of relevant political, economic and environmental developments in India and internationally in the relevant policy areas
- Contribution to and preparation of briefing material and reports for use by senior management in the EU Delegation and in EU headquarters
- Preparation of meetings with stakeholders, including logistical arrangements if required
- Coordination with implementation partners on partnerships such as the Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy Partnership, the EU-India Water Partnership
- Liaison with Indian stakeholders, including Government of India ministries

Qualifications or special requirements:
- Taking into account the local health and security conditions, applicants currently residing in India or nearby of Delhi will only be considered.
- Knowledge of one or more of the policy areas covered by the work of the section – energy, climate, environment, transport, industry – and relevant developments in India and internationally.
- Ability to write and report clearly in English.
- Some knowledge of EU policies and legislation in the relevant policy areas.

Important information to read before applying
Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).
Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with the local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:
- must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
- must hold a relevant entrance visa and / or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with the local legislation.
